1972 - 2002
It was 5 years ago today that my first husband passed away. It’s been very weird thinking about it. It feels like such a long time ago. Maybe 5 years is a long time. So much has happened and changed in my life. I’m married again and have a new beautiful baby girl. When Mike passed away, I wondered if there was any hope of having the joy of a new baby again. I wondered about a lot of things. How would my boys grow up without a father? But in that first year after Mike died, God showed me again and again that He is their heavenly Father and that He would take care of us. There were times when my oldest boy would say he felt God telling him He loved him. Over and over that happened in the first year. God was holding us very close. And God did have a plan. He was not taken by surprise at Mike’s death. It was so cool (although an emotional roller coaster at times) to see how things worked out. I married Mike’s best friend from high school, someone the kids knew from birth, and living right next door to us. How amazing is that?!
I miss Mike today. He was a lot of fun, not perfect, but he made me laugh. He was a good friend. But I love my new life. It’s better than I ever could have imagined it to be. I think that’s what makes it feel weird. Should I be this happy? I think Mike would want me to be. And he would have wanted the boys to have a father in their lives. I’m glad I know where Mike is and that I’ll have a chance to see him again. I’m looking forward to that day.

I’m not an ‘arts & crafts’ kind of person and I’ll admit I don’t do a lot of playing with my boys with their toys. But one thing that has always been important to me is reading. I’ve always read to the boys. It’s been part of our bedtime routine (this has been somewhat derailed with moving, having a baby, and Christmas, but we’re getting back into it now).
I absolutely LOVE reading to my boys. Since when my oldest was born, I was anticipating a time when I could read my favourite book to him, The Lord of the Rings. We finished that book a couple of months ago. Now I’m looking forward to reading it to my younger boy.  We’re continuing with other books, only now my oldest and I can share the reading - he reads a chapter to me, I read a chapter to him. We both love fantasy so now we’re reading through Eragon and we’re both enjoying it.  We watched the movie “The Secret of Nimh” a couple of weeks ago and my younger boy really liked the movie, so I’m reading the the book to him. It’s so much fun. I love seeing them getting into the story and watching the anticipation in their faces as I read to them. I love drama and so try to bring the characters to life using different voices.
Our whole family reads. I am thoroughly enjoying the extra time to read now that I’m on maternity leave. I’ve even joined a book club through my church.  My husband reads mostly non-fiction, but he’s always reading something. It’s awesome to see a passion for reading in my oldest son. He goes to the library and brings back tons of books. It helps him relax and gives him alone time to himself. I think my younger boy will gain that same passion. He watches his older brother reading and says he can’t wait until he can read like his brother. And now I have a baby girl. I’ll be able to read some of my other favorite books that the boys won’t like, like Anne of Green Gables and The Blue Castle (both by L.M. Montgomery). I’m so looking forward to it.
I just love reading! I’m so glad my family loves it, too.

Ok, here’s my new look. Feminine enough for you? I found it kind of amusing that everyone seemed to like to look that my husband picked, but I didn’t. lol. I used to be a real ‘tomboy’ growing up - there was hardly a feminine bone in my body. I’ve changed a lot since then, but I’m still not really “girlie girlie” with lots of pink everywhere. I’ve been kind of overloaded with pink things since Lynae was born, but I’m getting used it. Still, I wish they would make more non-pink clothes for girls. I like variety.

Because my husband ‘blew up’ my blog! Let me explain. Among other things my husband designs websites, but he also hosts some as well. He’s going to be moving the websites to a different provider and was using my blog as a test guinea pig. When he tried to move it over, he had to upgrade to a different version of WordPress (the blogging software I use) and when he did, he couldn’t use my other template, so my husband picked this template. I had nothing to do with it. And as soon as he can change it to a different look, it will be changing again. I don’t really like this look.
