Been back for two weeks

Well I’ve been back to the hotel for two weeks and I am swamped! Jumping right into the ‘conference season’ means I have a lot of work ahead of me. And there are things that should have been addressed a while ago, but there was no catering manager so I’m dealing with it now. Despite all that I feel good about being back. It’s nice to come back in a role where I can make more of a difference. Everyone says they’re really glad to have me back (which makes me feel good). It’s very challenging in the hospitality industry now because of the labour shortage. We’re short-staffed (just like every other hotel) and morale in certain departments is pretty low. I was wondering whether, like Esther, I’m here in this role for ’such a time as this’, to shine God’s light in the darkness. I pray He will use me for His purpose.

So life has been pretty busy, plus I worked all last weekend (Partylite and a Bridal Show). I’ve been trying to take it easy this weekend but 3 of the 5 members of our family are sick with colds (me included). No profound thoughts at this time. I’ve been reading 1 & 2 Peter. My desire is to follow God out of my comfort zone, to BELIEVE Him, and to grow in love for others.

New beginnings

It is a time of new beginnings for me. My husband and I are entering into a new ministry opportunity and I will be starting work as a catering manager next week. I’ve been spending some time with God and this is what He’s been saying to me:

“‘What does God want us to do?’ Jesus told them, ‘This is what God wants you to do: Believe (emphasis mine) in the one He has sent.’” John 6:28-29. I’m sure if I really really believed Jesus is who He said He is, I wouldn’t be afraid to step out of my comfort zone to follow Him.

“So now I am giving you a new comandement: Love each other (emphasis mine). Just as have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:34-35. Love is the key. So many times when there’s been tension in my relationships and I’ve asked what I should do, God has said over and over to just love the other person; and that’s always been the right thing to do.

“Through each (emphasis mine) day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,…” Psalm 42:8. And upon my children and upon my husband and upon my friends. Know that you are loved!

Getting back into a routine

School has begun for another year. The boys are getting back into a routine and so am I. It’s nice. The summer was fun; we were pretty loosey-goosey about a schedule of any kind. Now it’s nice to function in something more ordered. In anticipation of going back to work, I’ve been trying to sort some of the critical housekeeping areas into a schedule so I’m not doing laundry when no one has clean clothes for tomorrow, for example. I’m loving the fact that the boys are so much more self-sufficient. My oldest can do his own laundry and the boys have been assigned to clean the bathrooms once a week (this all started in our previous dwelling when I kept encountering ‘dribbles’ on the floor around the toilet; finally I told them I wasn’t cleaning up after them anymore and they were going to have to clean the bathroom themselves - they don’t have any problems ‘dribbling’ now but they’re still stuck with bathroom duty, hehe).

I have about a week and a half before I go back to work. I want to really enjoy this last little bit of time at home with my daughter. So I must resist the urge to ‘do’ more and more things around the house. I’m always finding more things to do and I know I’ll never be done, but still I keep trying to ‘do’ more. So I must be disciplined! I told myself I’ll only work on household projects when she’s sleeping. I did so-so today (I had her playing with her brothers when they got home from school so I could finish up something I was working on). It’s really hard for me to just do…nothing! But, enough about that. Tomorrow is a new day and I plan to enjoy it!
