{"id":161,"date":"2006-08-19T23:04:50","date_gmt":"2006-08-20T05:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/songofjoy.ca\/?p=170"},"modified":"2006-08-19T23:04:50","modified_gmt":"2006-08-20T05:04:50","slug":"house-shopping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/songofjoy.ca\/?p=161","title":{"rendered":"House shopping??"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What is with the buying homes &#8216;bug&#8217;?\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/ninmoore.blogspot.com\/2006\/08\/he-is-patient-and-he-is-faithful.html\" target=\"_blank\">Nin<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/carebearsunshine.blogspot.com\/2006\/08\/owning-our-first-home-one-were-in.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah<\/a> and their families are\u00c2\u00a0buying homes.\u00c2\u00a0 And now it seems that my family might be in the near future as well.\u00c2\u00a0 No, our choice to move is not from some sort of peer pressure because everyone&#8217;s doing it.\u00c2\u00a0 I would like to blame this one on God and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coffeewithgod.blogspot.com\" target=\"_blank\">Darcy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0When we first got married,\u00c2\u00a0my husband\u00c2\u00a0felt that for the first year, everything would remain &#8216;status quo&#8217; &#8211; no major changes.\u00c2\u00a0 And he was right.\u00c2\u00a0 We have stayed living in the same home, with the same jobs, etc.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 But that year is now over.\u00c2\u00a0 As of August 1, we entered into our second year together.\u00c2\u00a0 I remember\u00c2\u00a0thinking\u00c2\u00a0to myself a few weeks back, &#8220;Well, the first year is over.\u00c2\u00a0 When\u00c2\u00a0is\u00c2\u00a0God going to start shaking things up?&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0This\u00c2\u00a0thought came to me\u00c2\u00a0with fear and trepidation.\u00c2\u00a0 I am a person who by nature is a minimal risk taker and likes to keep things the way they are.\u00c2\u00a0 Change is never very easy for me.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not that I can&#8217;t deal with change &#8211; it&#8217;s just not my first choice.\u00c2\u00a0 My husband is much better suited to it.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And so when we visited the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coffeewithgod.blogspot.com\" target=\"_blank\">Van Loon&#8217;s<\/a> a few weeks back, my husband felt inspired (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theheresy.com\/default.cfm?EK=CF2DAC3A-B0D0-78C0-1F55C62B111C6896\" target=\"_blank\">click here to see his post<\/a>).\u00c2\u00a0 After that visit, he started checking out the real estate websites.\u00c2\u00a0 My initial reaction was wariness (I don&#8217;t like change, remember?).\u00c2\u00a0 But\u00c2\u00a0my husband assured me\u00c2\u00a0we probably wouldn&#8217;t seriously look at buying anything until next spring (good, I don&#8217;t have to think about change for several months).\u00c2\u00a0 But then this past Monday, he started talking about a\u00c2\u00a0particular house a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mooseplace.blogspot.com\" target=\"_blank\">friend<\/a> of his had mentioned to him.\u00c2\u00a0 He talked about\u00c2\u00a0where it was located (close to our friends), etc.\u00c2\u00a0 So I suggested driving over and taking a look at the place from the outside.<\/p>\n<p>Then everything just snowballed from there.\u00c2\u00a0 This week has been spent viewing various homes for sale (we&#8217;ve seen\u00c2\u00a07 now), getting pre-approved for a mortgage at the bank, and the\u00c2\u00a0house we saw this morning has us really interested.\u00c2\u00a0 We might be making an offer.<\/p>\n<p>What kind of craziness is this???\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It has been an interesting journey for me.\u00c2\u00a0 My husband and I have talked about owning a home since we got married.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not like I didn&#8217;t know it was coming.\u00c2\u00a0 However, I can get really, really attached to things (like my last car &#8211; a 1993 Dodge Colt, which, ironically, was parked just down from the house we saw this morning &#8211; I know it was my old car because it has some unique markings on\u00c2\u00a0it).\u00c2\u00a0 I really love where we live and the place we live in.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0within walking distance\u00c2\u00a0to the river, the library\/civic centre, grocery stores and the mall.\u00c2\u00a0 Our back yard is a nice size and\u00c2\u00a0has this great tree-shaded area at the back where we have our firepit.\u00c2\u00a0 It would be hard to leave, but\u00c2\u00a0when\u00c2\u00a0my husband\u00c2\u00a0started looking at real estate, I asked God to prepare me for moving (whenever that would be &#8211; I just didn&#8217;t think it would be so soon!).\u00c2\u00a0 And He has.\u00c2\u00a0 I have\u00c2\u00a0peace about moving (even though it moves me out of my comfort zone).\u00c2\u00a0 I get a sense that it&#8217;s time to move on (plus our rent increased this month and will be increasing again in January).<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0This house shopping business has revealed a few biases in me: I am biased against &#8216;old&#8217; houses; I like something that &#8216;feels&#8217; new;\u00c2\u00a0and I am totally intimidated by the thought of renovations (mess, clutter, work &#8211; urgh!).\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s been neat to see how God takes the desires of our hearts and either changes them or gives them to us.\u00c2\u00a0 The house we looked at this morning &#8216;feels&#8217; new &#8211; it&#8217;s clean with\u00c2\u00a0nice carpets, flooring, walls;\u00c2\u00a0even the basement is developed.\u00c2\u00a0 We wouldn&#8217;t have to put any work into it at all (from what we can tell with the intial walk through).\u00c2\u00a0 My husband likes verandas and decks &#8211;
