Let me relay an incident which occurred over supper Sunday night.\u00c2\u00a0 After doing a thorough cleaning\/purging of my sons\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 bedroom and to start off the new year, I informed my two boys (aged 6 \u00c2\u00bd and 10 \u00c2\u00bd ) that I would like them to make their beds when they get up in the morning before school each day.\u00c2\u00a0 They were agreeing to comply when out of nowhere a cry of protestation emerged from none other than my husband.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Why should the boys have to make their beds?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, he said.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The beds just get messy when they go to sleep at night, anyways.\u00c2\u00a0 Why make them do unnecessary work?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 I couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t believe what I was hearing.\u00c2\u00a0 Here was my husband, the person who is \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcsupposed\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 to support me in matters of training up our children, leading a revolt of the masses in our very own home!\u00c2\u00a0 The \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcmom-archy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 has been overthrown!\u00c2\u00a0 Anarchy reigns!\u00c2\u00a0 <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

My husband was quite adamant in his argument for perpetual bed-mangling.\u00c2\u00a0 He seems quite convinced that there is no good reason for anyone to make their bed and he felt compelled to lobby for the rights of the underprivileged, namely our two sons.\u00c2\u00a0 Let me mention that at no time is my husband required to make the bed (I do that) and what I was asking of the boys didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t affect him at all.\u00c2\u00a0 Still, he could not just sit by and let my \u00e2\u20ac\u02dctyrannical demands\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 infringe upon our two sons\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 freedoms.<\/font><\/p>\n

He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s leading a revolt, I tell you!\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a slippery slope\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 Today its bed-making, tomorrow it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be taking baths (they just get dirty again anyway, why do unnecessary work???).\u00c2\u00a0 He went so far as to get the boys to vote on what they would rather do.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcTo make the bed or not to make the bed, that is the question.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c2\u00a0 As if!!!\u00c2\u00a0 Of course the boys voted against bed-making.\u00c2\u00a0 (oh yeah, my husband did preclude the question saying that its not a democracy, but if<\/strong> it were, what would you vote\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6)<\/font><\/p>\n

Popular opinion has swayed and mom is losing the battle.\u00c2\u00a0 So there will be no bed-making in our household (except for my bed).\u00c2\u00a0 Even though it looks better when the bed is made, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a good habit to keep a neat room (including the bed), and the majority of the western world performs the ritual of bed-making.\u00c2\u00a0 And above all, it makes mom happy.<\/font><\/p>\n

Bed-makers of the world, we must stand united.\u00c2\u00a0 The winds of revolution are in the air.\u00c2\u00a0 Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t let what happened to me happen to you.<\/font><\/p>\n
