{"id":665,"date":"2013-01-26T23:56:25","date_gmt":"2013-01-27T05:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/songofjoy.ca\/?p=665"},"modified":"2013-01-26T23:56:25","modified_gmt":"2013-01-27T05:56:25","slug":"rachel-held-evans-and-the-scandal-of-the-evangelical-heart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/songofjoy.ca\/?p=665","title":{"rendered":"Rachel Held Evans and &#8220;The Scandal of the Evangelical Heart&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I first heard about Rachel Held Evans through my husband.\u00a0 He&#8217;d bought her book on his Kindle called <a title=\"A Year of Biblical Womanhood\" href=\"http:\/\/rachelheldevans.com\/biblical-womanhood\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A Year of Biblical Womanhood<\/span><\/a> and told me I should read it.\u00a0 My first thought was, &#8220;As if! I&#8217;m going to read a book by that name!\u00a0 It&#8217;ll probably tell me I should be calling my husband &#8216;lord&#8217; and other silly stuff like that.&#8221;\u00a0 Well, I read the book, and it was not what I had expected, and I ended up really enjoying it.\u00a0 So I started following Rachel&#8217;s blog which I also have enjoyed.<\/p>\n<p>This week she wrote a really good, thought provoking blog post: <a title=\"The Scandal of the Evangelical Heart\" href=\"http:\/\/rachelheldevans.com\/blog\/scandal-evangelical-heart\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;The Scandal of the Evangelical Heart&#8221;<\/a>.\u00a0 She writes about her struggle with elements of Christian doctrine that seem to run counter to her conscience and sense of justice, empathy, and love.\u00a0 And many Christians are perfectly willing to accept these inconsistencies without even a question &#8211; it&#8217;s as if there is no place for emotion or doubt.\u00a0 Rachel makes some really good points in this post and in her follow-up post: &#8220;<a title=\"Love. You keep using that word...\" href=\"http:\/\/rachelheldevans.com\/blog\/love-word-means\" target=\"_blank\">Love. You keep using that word.
