Now that I’m back into the world of diaper changing, I thought I’d take a moment to review and maybe get others’ opinions on the best diapers out there. We’ve been given various packages of diapers from family and friends so I’ve had a chance to try a few different kinds. I must say that with my two boys, I was totally a Huggies mom, but I’m finding the regular (baby-shaped) huggies to be disappointing this time around. They don’t seem to have adequate ‘containment’ especially when she has a bowel movement. Pampers Baby Dry is better for this, but I don’t like the fasteners – they have tape instead of velcro so there’s always the risk that the tape will end up sticking to baby’s skin. Huggies Supreme (Gentle Care) is better for containment and they have velcro fasteners. Someone told me that the Costco Kirkland brand diapers are really good, but I haven’t had a chance to try them. I think I’ll try the Kirkland Brand the next time I have to buy diapers. If those don’t satisfy, I think I’ll go with Huggies Supreme (as long as the price is comparable).
If anyone’s got an opinion on diapers, feel free to leave a comment.
I have never really noticed a difference in Huggies and Pampers (the non-“supreme” versions) as far as how much they hold, just in the way they fit. I’ve found that we start with Huggies, and when my wide, chubby kids get to big for that size in Huggies (say size 3), we move onto size 3 in Pampers. My sister-in-law has used the Costco brand diapers and like them, but I never had.
The Walmart “parent’s choice” and Superstore “teddy’s choice” are pretty much useless, at least in the nighttime, as they hold way less than brand name diapers. But, if we were ever given any as gifts we’d just use them in the day, when they get changed more often. I’ve also tried the Luv’s (I think that’s what they’re called) brand from Toys ‘R Us but didn’t think they were anything spectacular.
I don’t imagine I’ve been helpful, but that’s my experience with diapers!! Hope you find a brand that keeps things where they’re supposed to be! 🙂
I lOVE superstore brand! I can’t stand huggies, they always leak! pampers, yes, I agree, I miss the velcro and stretchy tabs. Pampers “cruisers” or the “next step up” from pampers baby dry is way too expensive. So I love teddy’s choice. they’re cheap, they never leak and they don’t smell. I don’t like equate (walmart brand) I find that they smell and you need to change them lots….
that’s my diaper opinion
with my first, I was totally a “Pampers-only” mom, and very “anti- generic-brand”. So this time around, I told my hubby that we were buying pampers no questions asked, because that’s what I liked. So when I found out that my mom in law had bought 4 huuuuge BOXES of costco brand diapers, I was not impressed. I went and bought my pampers anyway. I was totally shocked! Pampers sucks! Daniel would pee like once and the diaper would be full. They leaked everytime he wore them. The kirkland brand however, rocks! I love everything about them and they have never leaked. I highly suggest you go with your original idea and go for the kirkland.
HI, Carol. Although it’s been a few years since my boys have been out of diapers, I still would like to leave a comment on this. Firstly, I had to use Huggies, because it was the only brand that the boys’ skin didn’t react to. I tried every other kind on them (not Kirkland, though), but skin problems errupted after just one or two uses. So, back to Huggies I went. Thankfully I was on their mailing list, so I was able to save $1-$2 per package that way.
Of late, however, I’ve been advised by friends with babies/toddlers, that the Kirkland diapers from Costco are just as good as the “brand name” diapers, and cheaper. So, it may be worth looking into.
I hope all is going well. I loved your post on what it’s like to have a girl . . . you’re right. At this point it’s likely not that different. The “differences” will emerge as she grows up. I’m glad you have decided to embrace “her” and I hope you enjoy all the mom and daughter times the future has to hold!
it’s so interesting how everyone has such different “tastes” in diapers!
i am totally a Pampers Mommy. I tried Huggies but couldn’t stand the smell in the morning – both my husband and I were so grossed out. I tried the Walmart & Superstore brand but my child broke out into a rash. The Costco ones, I’ve heard work really well, but they do tend to leak more. I thought of using the “Luvs” but they were actually the most expensive when I looked at them. I love Pampers – i’ve never had an issue with them, she’s never leaked or smelt since I started using them when she was a month old.
I actually posted today on what “Pull-Ups” to use…becuase now we’ve hit THAT stage. oh the options are endless!! and they all include money! I just wish she’d catch on to potty training! 🙂
I just heard from someone today that Luvs are the same people that make the costco brand diaper. Just food for thought.
Wow. Its quite the discussion on diapers. Thanks for all your input. I was wondering… Do you think the effectiveness of the brand might have something to do with whether its a boy or a girl? Do you think the Huggies aren’t working for me because I have a girl instead of a boy?
I think so Carol…
Pampers worked super awesome for my girl….but horribly for my boy….
You’d think peeing was pretty general, but I guess it’s not 😛
this is a funny dialoug….
i was wondering carol….do you have a digital camera? i’ve never really seen any pics on your blog. what’s your thoughts?
thought we’d all get off the “voiding” topic….LOL
not that that would bother me, I’ve talked about alot worse without blinking!
I’m not sure if gender has anything to do with the effectiveness of diapers. I used Huggies on two boys and they worked great for both of them. And I heard that the Costco brand is made by Huggies. Who knows?
