Settlers of Catan

We were very excited to receive the game Settlers of Catan for Christmas this year.  My husband and I have been playing this game with a group of friends for over 5 years.  We last played over New Year’s at our friends’ parents’ place (and missed the turning of the new year at midnight).  Settlers is a fun strategy game.  I enjoy playing it, but up until now I’ve never been able to win (I’m not very good at spacial thinking).  We played the game with our two boys (ages 11 1/2 and 7 1/2) last night and we all had a great time.  I wasn’t sure about the younger boy.  If he feels like he’s losing at a game, he tends to get mopey, give up, and stop playing the game.  But he was right into Settlers last night.  We played for over 1 1/2 hours and the boys did not lose interest.  We had to stop the game because it was getting so late and leave everything where it was and finish up the game this morning.  I won!  I’m very excited about that fact, because it gives me hope that I might actually win against all adults some day.  And I’m really glad we have a board game that everyone enjoys playing.  I’m looking forward to more games in the future!
