Sorting

I’ve been spending whatever time I have to sort through our boxes in the office in the basement.  Quite a few boxes ended up being stored in there.  I’m almost done the initial sorting.  Its nice to have the office looking more like an office.

My goal is to sort through all the boxes we brought over when we moved (there’s still a number of unpacked boxes).  There’d be no way I would be able to do that if I was working full time.  It still amazes me how much stuff we had when we moved.  Where did it all fit?

I’ve heard from other people how there were boxes they had that they still hadn’t sorted several years after they moved.  I don’t want to do that.  We’ll see if I’m able to follow through on this.  I’ve still got over nine months to get it done.

  1. Carol, I totally understand what you mean about NOT wanting to have unpacked boxes several years later. I’m feeling the internal pressure (from myself)to get all of my boxes unpacked too. When we first moved to our new place we initially unpacked everything we “couldn’t live without” plus a few other boxes. Now the rest of them are in a room (our sun-room/solarium), waiting to be unpacked. My problem is I’m not sure where to put everything. Our house is bigger, but it’s older. It seems that houses built nearly 100 years ago didn’t require the same amount of storage space we do today. Perhaps that says something about how our culture has shifted from a house full of “functional and need-only” items, to a house full of stuff we “think we need but don’t”. Moving has actually really made me evaluate my material wealth, and how, even though I didn’t think I was like this, possessions may be overtaking what is truly important in life.
I wish you well as you accomplish your goal to get everything unpacked. Your timing for this baby along with the purchase of your house actually worked out quite well. I agree, I’m not sure how anyone could manage working full-time and deal with the unpacking and sorting.
    Have a great day!
