#2: Sunrises and Ice Skating

I wanted to get in watching a sunrise before my “40 days” were up so after having breakfast with my Wednesday morning breakfast friend we headed up to the 17th floor of her apartment building to watch the sunrise. She had to leave early but I stayed to watch the whole thing. It takes a long time for the sun to rise but it’s a tranquil experience to stop and watch for the rising of the sun. There’s something about the sun’s radiance washing over you that is uplifting to the soul.

Then I went home, picked up my daughter and we went ice skating downtown across from the Sheraton Cavalier. My daughter really wanted ice skates for Christmas but we hadn’t tried them out yet. Tomorrow she goes back to school and my thought was “if I don’t take her skating before school starts the skates will end up sitting in their box all winter long”. I have not been skating in years. Probably because I hate being cold and because no one else in my family has a strong desire to skate. I was a little wobbly on my feet at first but it came back pretty quickly. They have ‘ice walkers’ (for lack of a better term – they’re like a seniors walker but you can push it on the ice to help you learn how to skate) at the Meewasin outdoor skating rink so Lynae was using that. And it was a lot of fun. Hopefully we’ll get out there on a fairly regular basis for the rest of the winter.

  1. So much fun! We did the same thing with our daughter on Jan. 1. She was scared but at the end overcame her fear and did some gliding while holding on to our hands.

    Happy Birthday!
