I had a luncheon to attend (and speak at) downtown and another reception in the same area a few hours later so instead of walking back home in the meantime I spent the afternoon out & about downtown (mostly in the mall – it was snowing, windy, and cold outside!).
I do enjoy hanging out at the mall…by myself…with no deadlines and no real agenda. No pressure to hurry. Just wandering the shops and seeing if anything catches my eye.
Today I moved at a leisurely pace and perused the shops. Finished off my Christmas shopping (which is a really good feeling; normally at this time of year I haven’t even started my shopping yet). Being a weekday afternoon, the mall was pretty quiet. It was great!
And the luncheon that I spoke at was good. I was asked to speak on behalf of Dress for Success Saskatoon (a non-profit organization that helps women succeed in the workplace by providing them clothes for their interviews and their employment). The lady that normally speaks at these things was out of town so I stepped in (I’m on their board).
Where some people would rather ‘die’ than speak in front of groups I enjoy it. It’s probably the ‘drama girl’ in me (did I ever mention that ‘professional actress’ was my first career choice?). I even received some compliments today after I spoke which always makes me feels good.
The reception I attended this evening was for Tourism Saskatoon and being an event planner, this was a good organization for me to join. I usually don’t enjoy “schmoozing” because I don’t know anyone and it’s out of my comfort zone. But I went anyways because I knew it would be a good networking opportunity. And it was great! I knew some of the people there and was able to network with a number of key people.
All in all it was a great day!
(although I’m feeling pretty tired now – I’ve been on my feet most of the day)
